BUILDINGS IN CALOOCAN TO BE INSPECTED
February 9, 2012
Caloocan City Mayor Enrico “Recom” Echiverri ordered yesterday the inspection of all buildings in the city in order to determine if they can withstand a strong earthquake.
According to Echiverri, members of the City Engineering Office will begin to scour buildings in the city to check on their structural integrity and compliance with the building code.
In this way, those buildings with structural defects would be identified, allowing authorities to forewarn the tenants of these edifices about the impending danger of occupying these buildings.
Meanwhile, the Rescue Team of the Reformed Department of Public Safety and Traffic Management (RDPSTM) will lead the conduct of earthquake drills in all public and private schools in the city, as well as offices of private firms.
The aim of the activity is to teach both students and teachers the proper response to earthquakes or any disaster particularly when they are still within the premises of school buildings.
Echiverri’s directive came at the heels of an intensity-6.9 earthquake that jolted Dumaguete City and Vallehermosa, Negros Oriental, resulting in many casualties and damages to property.
An intensity-6 earthquake was recorded in La Carlota City, La Castellana sa Negros Occidental at Argao, Cebu while intensity 5 was registered in Roxas City, Dao, Ivisan, Capiz, Iloilo City, Ayungon, Negros Oriental, Kanlaon City, Lapu-Lapu City, Guimaras, Cebu City, San Carlos City, Bacolod City, Sagay City, Tagbilaran City, Candon and Binalbagan in Negros Occidental.
ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas President, Councilor Ricojudge “RJ” Echiverri, reminded local barangay officials to always bring their whistles which he said would come into good use during disaster-rescue efforts.
