CLEANEST BARANGAYS TO BE FETED ON CALOOCAN’S GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY
January 29, 2012
Caloocan City Mayor Enrico “Recom” Echiverri is set to recognize the cleanest barangays in the city as part of the celebration of Caloocan’s 50th Foundation Anniversary this coming February 16.
The program, which was initiated by Echiverri last year, is dubbed “Gawad: Pinakamalinis na Pamayanan”. It is also known as the “Citywide Search for the Cleanest, Greenest and Model Barangays for Ecowaste Management”.
The contest was launched as compliance to Republic Act 9003 (Ecological Waste Management Act of 2000) and city ordinance 0185 series of 1994 from the City Council, which both serve as residents’ guidelines for the proper disposal of waste, Echiverri said.
All 188 barangays of the city are eligible to win based on the four categories which takes into account the population of each town.
The first category involves barangays with a population of no more than 5,000, while the second category covers barangays with populations of 5,001 to 12,000. Barangays with a population of 12,001 and up will fall on the third category while the fourth category will solely cover barangays in Caloocan North.
The top three winners will be chosen from each category, meaning that a total of 12 barangays will be recognized in the contest.
Last year, Barangay 159 copped first place in the first category. The second category went to Barangay 163, while Barangay 14 emerged as top winner of the third category. The fourth category was won by Barangay 169/
Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas President, Councilor Ricojudge “RJ” Echiverri, bared that personalities from different branches of the government will serve as judges of the contest.
These branches include the Environmental and Sanitation Services (ESS), Liga ng mga Barangay, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Education (DepEd), Environmental NGO and the business sector.
Some 16 coordinators in Caloocan City will aid the judges in the decision-making process even as the ESS submits its report on whether or not the participating barangays still abide by the correct process in garbage disposal.
The contest results will be revealed on February 25 during the “Barangay Night to Remember”, which is also part of the city’s Golden Foundation Anniversary.
