Caloocan City Mayor Enrico “Recom” Echiverri reported that the local
government has dedicated two new school buildings for the communities
of its latest in-city resettlement project.
According to Echiverri, the newly-constructed two-story,
eight-classroom structures are both located within a close proximity of
each other along Bagumbong Dulo
He said both schools are also within a short walking distance of the Northville II-B Development Project in Bagumbong.
“These schools illustrate our sincere commitment to provide every
relocated family with a viable and ideal community in which to raise
their children,” he emphasized.
The mayor said with the addition of these new schools within close
proximity of the site, the residents will now have more access to free
and quality education.
For his part, City Engineer Rolando Eduria said the schools have
been aptly named Bagumbong High School Annex and Bagumbong Elementary
School Annex.
Eduria explained that because of some minor facility upgrades – like
the construction of perimeter fences to ensure student safety – the two
schools would be opening their doors sometime next week.
For the residents, the Northville project has been a welcome
development compared to their previous dwellings beside the railway
tracks where existence is oftentimes both wayward and hazardous, he
added.
Aside from the infrastructure support, the city also conducts
regular livelihood and skills training for the residents of the site.
The Northville project in Barangay 171, Bagumbong is the 108,644 sq.
meter resettlement area chosen by Mayor Recom for more than 2,400
squatter families affected by the North and South Rail Linkages Project
of the Philippine National Railroad.
Likewise, due to the support extended by the Urban Poor Affairs
Office during the two-year relocation plan, the city government had
cleared the Caloocan segment of the PNR of all informal settlers and
illegal structures without a single complaint raised with the
Commission on Human Rights.
