Strong families are essential to the well-being of our Nation.
This was how Caloocan City Mayor Enrico “Recom” Echiverri described
the importance of the family in nation building amid the global
financial turndown, as he led yesterday the city’s celebration of
Family Day along C-3 Road.
According to Echiverri, it is important that the nation, more
particularly Caloocan, recognized the importance of families having
time for one another.
The mayor said this was one of the primary reasons why he declared
five years ago that the city should set aside at least one day of the
year dedicated to strengthening family ties by engaging in activities
that reinforce the bonds between children and parents.
The annual event is part of the city’s month-long celebration of its 47th Founding Anniversary.
“On this year’s Caloocan Family Day, we celebrate the relationship
between parents and their children, and we recognize the importance of
families spending time together,” he said.
“Not surprisingly,” he added, “more and more participants come every
year because they seem to find the concept to their liking.”
This event holds significance in the lives of Caloocan residents
because it strengthens family ties and allows employees, city officials
and barangay leaders to bring with them their respective families and
enjoy the whole day activities, he noted
Some of the activities prepared by the local government were a
family Thanks Giving Mass; aerobics class and 10k fun run for health
buffs; a battle of drums and lyre bands; cheering competition; free
medical services; and a garden show.
City employees, barangay officials and residents, meanwhile, lauded
Echiverri for his continuing support for family-oriented activities.
