Caloocan City Mayor Enrico “Recom” Echiverri yesterday said the city
government will be launching a Mobile E-Passport Service (MEPS) on Feb.
2 in partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
Echiverri said residents would only have to go to the Civil Registry
Department (CRD) in either the City Hall Main or the City Hall North to
properly avail of the service.
“Our Civil Registry Department will also provide the necessary
assistance to our residents who are applying for a passport,” the mayor
said.
The application period will run until Feb. 27. If approved,
applicants then would have to return on March 14 at the City Hall Main
at A. Mabini st. corner 10th Ave., for final evaluation and payment.
The releasing of passports, meanwhile, is set on March 28 also at the Caloocan City Hall Main.
For her part City Civil Registrar and DFA-LGU Coordinator Luchi
Flores said the hassle-free processing of passports was earlier
requested by Mayor Recom as part of the celebration of the 47th
Cityhood of Caloocan on Feb. 16.
Flores said that because of this benefit, the residents would incur additional savings for the processing of their documents.
Aside from helping applicants minimize their expenses, the MEPS will
also bring government services closer to the people, she added.
Flores explained that the MEPS is a component of the outreach project of the DFA in partnership with the local government.
It aims to facilitate the processing of passports and at the same
time, allow the DFA to serve the residents of a particular city or
municipality, she said.
Flores, meanwhile, designated two phone lines, 324-5126 and 288-8811
loc. 2249, to entertain the increasing number of passport applicants.
