Caloocan City Mayor Enrico “Recom” Echiverri marked his birthday yesterday by giving special social services to the residents, more particularly the poor.
Capping off his birthday celebration, Echiverri officiated the marriage of 400 couples in two separate civil mass weddings held in Bagong Barrio and Bagong Silang.
Aside from being the solemnizing officer, the mayor, together with his wife Purificacion Echiverri, stood as principal sponsors to the newlyweds.
Echiverri was in good spirits as he also sponsored the birth registrations of the couple’s children through the city’s Civil Registry Department.
For her part, City Civil Registrar Luchi Flores said the yearly Kasalang Bayan or Mass Wedding, with which Echiverri traditionally observes his birthday celebrations, has been the mayor’s favorite part of the festivities.
Meanwhile, as his birthday gift to the unemployed residents and various people’s organizations, Echiverri directed the city’s Labor and Industrial Relations Office to conduct a three-part job and livelihood program at the city hall plaza.
According to LIRO Chief Dante Esteban, the mayor’s birthday has always been marked with the holding of a mega job fair that gave residents employment opportunities both here and abroad.
Then, Echiverri led the unveiling of the GMA (Greater Modular Access)-Recom Jobs Center kiosk which will now allow graduates and jobseekers free online access to career guides, job openings and Department of Labor and Employment programs.
Echiverri also signed a memorandum of agreement with the DOLE that benefited various people’s organizations in the city under their Tulong Pangkabuhayan or micro-entrepreneurial program.
Earlier, the mayor even played Santa Clause when he distributed rice and other foodstuffs to some depressed areas of the city.
While even pets and pet lovers got a birthday treat when Echiverri directed the City Veterinary Office to conduct free anti-rabies vaccinations in the barangays under their Pet Mo, Ilabas Mo program.
